Catch Phrase – Best Case Scenario does not exist!

January 19, 2010

Sorry to crush your dreams.  During initiating and planning it is particularly important to make sure that you and your team are not planning the project based on “Best Case Scenario”.  It does not exist and planning is the best and least expensive time to dismiss that fantasy.  If your team is blowing too much sunshine, give them “what if” scenarios to bring them back to earth.  What are the inputs to each task?  How much control do you and team have over the inputs?  What happens if there are changes in schedule? Personnel? Scope? Budget? Quality Expectations?

Get everyone’s brain moving and grooving.  Make contingency plans for possible obstacles.

If you don’t believe me, check out these Project Management Truisms.
