Language of Persuasion – The Relationship is the Message – From HBR

March 21, 2011

The HBR blog post Language of Persuasion, is the essence of simplicity.  If we approach our conversations, discussions and negotiations from the perspective of things we have in common, we will get more buy-in from our audience from the beginning.  As the author so aptly states, “the relationship is the message”.  Looking for things that you have in common with your audience, sets a less adversarial tone to the communication.  People listen better and are more likely to agree  when  they have a positive relationship with you.  This cannot be manipulation, it must come from an authentic connection.
